Chiropractic and COVID19

The World Federation of Chiropractic has recently summarized the evidence succinctly and made its position clear:

There is no credible scientific evidence that chiropractic spinal adjustment/manipulation confers or boosts immunity.
Chiropractors should refrain from any communication that suggests spinal adjustment/manipulation may protect patients from contracting COVID-19 or will enhance their recovery. Doing otherwise is potentially dangerous to public health.”

Chiropractors who make such claims, do so on the basis of historical and dogmatic ideas, which are not supported by science and have no place in modern evidence-based health care — let alone in a global pandemic which is claiming the lives of thousands.

For patients: We strongly advise you to ignore such claims and instead heed the recommendations of local health authorities: Wash your hands frequently, maintain social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, practice respiratory hygiene, seek early medical advice if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, and stay informed — see more at the WHO website here.

For chiropractors on the wrong side of the scientific consensus: We strongly advise you to not underestimate the impact of the COVID19 epidemic, and not to muddy the waters with well-intended, but ill-advised theories at a time where the message of our health authorities needs to be heard clearly. Please act in accordance with the WFC statement.
